For our venture TIO we have designed a plant-based dispenser & floss system. With TIO we want to prove in our own way that pollution can be avoided. Because the sustainable redesign of an everyday object, such as dental floss dispenser, which billions of people use every day, can have a huge, positive impact on our environment. This philosophy is reflected in every TIO product.

Since we aimed for a friendly and natural design we got inspired by the smooth shape of a pebble. The approachable outer shape creates a pleasant ergonomic and helps to integrate well into the modern bathroom environment. As a material we’ve chosen a plant based compound with visible wood speckles to reflect the plant-based origin. A subtle pattern on the bottom supports the daily interaction and revives the minimal appearance.

The ecological damage caused by the increasing amount of waste humans produce every day is immense. Climate change and the pollution of oceans are the first of many consequences if we don’t make significant changes in the manufacturing of consumer goods. Due to their very short lifespan, personal hygiene products like dental ones are a key segment.

With TIO we have been trying to achieve the best possible result for people and nature alike through our products by combining material research and resource-saving design. Instead of conventional plastic made of petroleum, Tio uses plant-based bioplastics for all parts from yarn to dispenser. The foundation of the yarn and dispenser are renewable, vegetable raw materials.

This saves CO2 and allows the avid user to clean up their carbon footprint and teeth. An extensive material research enabled a cut down of green house gases by 55% compared to ordinary petro-based materials.

Cutting95%ofpackagingwaste

The Tiofloss cuts 95% of packaging waste due to its resource saving refill system. The floss bobbins are packaged in innovative paper-based, FSC-certified and recyclable bags. The dispenser itself is a beautiful and timeless object made from a bio-based composite that goes without any petro-based resources. Due to it's simple and durable design it endures countless lifecycles compared to the commonly used single use containers.
